Celebrating Art, Culture and Storytelling During NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate and learn about the histories, cultures, achievements and continuing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year marks a significant milestone, celebrating 50 years of NAIDOC Week, and the official 2026 National NAIDOC Week poster reflects both the strength of culture and the importance of carrying stories forward for future generations.
The artwork, titled Paralpi, was created by Zaachariaha Fielding, a proud Yankunytjatjara man from the APY Lands in South Australia. Widely recognised as an artist and musician, Zaachariaha’s work brings together language, culture, storytelling and contemporary artistic expression.
Paralpi explores themes of movement, continuity and connection across generations. Rich in colour and symbolism, the artwork celebrates the enduring resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while honouring Ancestors, community, language and identity. The piece also recognises the ongoing cultural renaissance being led by First Nations peoples across Australia.
Zaachariaha Fielding said:
“Paralpi is about movement — movement through generations, through memory, through song and story. It speaks to the strength our people carry and the beauty of culture continuing to evolve while staying deeply connected to who we are.”
As a regional healthcare provider, KI Medical Clinic values opportunities to recognise and celebrate the cultures, stories and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Art has a unique ability to foster understanding, connection and reflection, making it an important part of cultural awareness and community engagement.
We encourage everyone to take some time during NAIDOC Week to learn, listen and celebrate the world’s oldest continuing cultures.
Happy NAIDOC Week from the team at KI Medical Clinic.
