Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Australia, yet many people are unaware of its symptoms or risk factors. Early detection can save lives.

  • Lung cancer can affect anyone—even non-smokers.
  • Common symptoms include:
    ✅ A new or persistent cough (lasting 3 weeks or more)
    ✅ Coughing up blood
    ✅ Chest pain or discomfort
    ✅ Shortness of breath
    ✅ Unexplained weight loss or fatigue

Why This Matters for Kangaroo Island

  • Many in our community live with chronic respiratory conditions like COPD or asthma.

The Kangaroo Island Medical Clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8:45 am to 4:45 pm. If you need urgent care outside of these hours, please contact the KI Health Service (hospital) by phone on 08 8553 4200. The Health Service is located at Corner Wheelton Street and The Esplanade, Kingscote SA 5223. At the KI Health Service you will be triaged by the RN and the on-call doctor will be called in if necessary.
