As we celebrate NAIDOC Week, we’re proud to acknowledge the rich cultures, knowledge, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
On display in our clinic is “Connected – Wild and One”, a commissioned artwork by local Kangaroo Island artist Andrea Compton
Andrea’s artwork was made possible through grant funding from Country SA Primary Health Network
Inspired by the native pink flowering gum, the painting was created to represent a connection between Indigenous people living on Kangaroo Island and the medical services available to them. Andrea chose the pink flowering gum because of its significance as a traditional medicine tree, valued for its many medicinal and practical uses within Aboriginal communities.
The artwork also celebrates the unique landscape of Kangaroo Island, with native flora, wildlife, and meeting places (representing the townships of Kangaroo Island) connected through vibrant colours that represent hope for the future.
